Introduction to International Faxing

Sending a fax to another country is simple with FreeFax.Pro, but it requires a specific number format to ensure it reaches its destination. Unlike local faxes, international faxing involves exit codes and country codes. This guide will demystify the process and provide you with the knowledge to fax globally with confidence.

Correct formatting is key to connecting your fax across the globe.

The International Fax Number Format

A correctly formatted international fax number has three parts. Let's break them down:

Exit Code

(e.g., + or 011)

Country Code

(e.g., 44 for UK)

Local Fax Number

(Area code + number)

1. Exit Code (or International Access Code)

This code tells your carrier you're making an international call.

The plus sign (+) is the universal symbol for the exit code and is the recommended method for FreeFax.Pro.
For faxes from the US & Canada, the exit code is also 011.
For most of Europe, it is 00.

Rule of thumb: Always use the (+) sign. Our system will automatically handle the correct exit code for you.

2. Country Code

This is a 1-3 digit code that identifies the destination country. Each country has a unique code.

3. Local Fax Number

This is the standard area code and phone number you would dial if you were inside that country.

Important: If the local number starts with a zero (0), you usually need to drop the zero when dialing internationally. For example, a UK number like `020 7946 0018` becomes `+44 20 7946 0018`.

Examples and Common Country Codes

Let's say you are in the USA (exit code 011) and want to fax to a number in London, UK (country code 44). The local number is (020) 1234 5678.

Correct format: +442012345678

Note: The leading 0 from the area code is dropped.

Country	Country Code	Example Number
United Kingdom	44	+442012345678
Australia	61	+61212345678
Germany	49	+493012345678
India	91	+912212345678
Japan	81	+81312345678
